I like to say, we don’t have empty seats, we have open opportunities for people to meet Jesus. Every week, we usually will see a new face at Elgin City Church. Our small, but growing group is filled with expectation to see a Kingdom movement take place in our city. We have some empty seats though, and rather than view them as just seats, I’d rather view them as opportunities.
Each seat is an opportunity to make a new friend. Life is too short to be lived alone. Church can be a great place to meet like minded friends that can really impact your life. I mean the good kind of friends. The kind of friends you can have fun with, but in a way that is uplifting and encouraging.
Each seat is an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Can you have a relationship with God on your own? Of course you can, but we all need to feel like we are part of a bigger purpose in life. As a church, we are committed to being real, relevant and radically impacting our community for the better. Impacting our city is more fun with more people doing life together!
Finally, each seat is a future story for someone to meet Jesus. We think of every seat being filled with a person that might visit church for the first time, or maybe is struggling in life and is just making a commitment to better themselves. A life with Jesus was meant to be shared with people we care about and love. Why not invite someone to come with you and fill that empty seat next to you? Who knows, maybe they will be encouraged by the music or inspired by the message? Maybe they will end up encountering the living God, just like you and I have. You never know, until you invite them!
