This is a story about Breinne McAtee. Breinne has been attending Elgin City Church upon her return f... read more
The other day I was driving down my side street and looked up in the sky and saw a huge bird soaring in the sky. The air was brisk and it was a clear Winter’s day. The huge bird was no hawk, nor was it a turkey vulture commonly seen in our area. It was an bald eagle! Yearly, several eagles have taken nest in Elgin every Winter along the Fox River. They look for a break in the icy stream where fish may be available. As I turned the corner on Kimball St. to Route 31, I could see the eagle as clear as day. These birds of prey are large. A bald eagles wingspan can reach lengths of 6-7 feet long from wing to wing. I get excited watching these birds due to the sheer size and the magnificence they carry.
As I was enjoying nature’s entertainment, I asked the Holy Spirit what the significance of this sighting was for myself, for our church and for Elgin at large. This is what came to my spirit:
“Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.” – Isaiah 40:30-31
In this next year, 2017 will be a year of new strength for you. Where you have been tired and weak, the Lord will give you new strength as you wait on him. This waiting isn’t a quiet, reserved type of waiting without knowing what is next. No, this waiting is active waiting. Expectant waiting. Waiting in hope, ready and poised to exercise your faith. 2016 may have been a rough year for some. Maybe you were discouraged, or promises were left unfulfilled. No worries! God promises that those who will wait for the Lord will gain new strength. They will mount up with wings, like eagles. God will cause you to catch the wind of his spirit in this next year. Stretch out your wings! Are you ready to soar?
